Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

We believe that ALL children who attend Plantpots should have their needs met to help them achieve their full potential.

As a Montessori nursery, our learning is led by the needs of the individual children and is therefore flexible and creative. Each child has a key worker to ensure their needs are represented during our planning processes, which includes SEND targets. Activities are planned to include all children and are modified so that every child can participate in some way. Social, curricular and physical integration of our SEND children is at the forefront of our planning.

Through our supportive and encouraging approach, children have the freedom to choose their own activities, which helps them develop their identity, personality, character and knowledge at their own pace and in their own way.

A Montessori education is particularly beneficial for children with autism as well as children with ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome, OCD and Down syndrome.

You can read our special educational needs and disability policy here.
This policy applies to all staff, students and volunteers working at Plantpots.

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator is Nursery Manager, Lesley Collins.
